MANHATTAN — A man tried to rape a woman on the subway in Harlem Thursday afternoon after she moved to another car when she saw him masturbating, the NYPD said.

The 21-year-old woman, whose identity was not released, was inside the second to last car of a northbound 3 train heading toward the 148th Street station when she saw a man touching himself about 4 p.m., according to the NYPD.

She moved to another car in the train, but he followed, grabbed her from behind and shoved her onto a seat where he tried to rape her, police said.

The attacker, who was about 6 feet and between 25 and 35-years-old, ran away when the train pulled into the 148th Street station, the NYPD said.

He was last seen wearing a grey hoodie, black hat, and a brown coat, police said.

Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at (800) 577-TIPS (8477).
