QUEENS — An off-duty NYPD officer was arrested Sunday afternoon after he choked his girlfriend at her Queens home, a police spokesman said.

The 42-year-old officer, Kenneth Avila, was arrested about 4:55 p.m. within the 107th Precinct, which covers Kew Gardens Hills, Fresh Meadows and Jamaica Estates, police said.

He assaulted his girlfriend at her home in the 106th Precinct, which encompasses Ozone Park, South Ozone Park and Howard Beach, a police spokesman said.

Avila faced charges of criminally obstructing her breathing, the NYPD said.

Avila's girlfriend, whose identity was not released, didn't need to go to the hospital after the dispute, an NYPD spokesman said.
