PARK SLOPE — Less than a minute after the ball drop in Times Square, New York City delivered its first baby of 2014.
Baby girl Shannon-Lee Willis came into the world at 12 a.m. at New York Methodist Hospital in Park Slope. The birth was "to the minute", according to hospital spokesman Will Deitz.
Shannon-Lee weighed in at 7 pounds and 3 ounces and measured 19 inches long, the hospital reported. Her mother Samantha Nieves and father Shannon Willis live in Crown Heights.
Hospital officials believe the natural birth was the first of 2014 because it happened at the stroke of midnight and all city hospitals have synchronized clocks, a spokeswoman said.
