DUMBO — Construction on a bouldering wall, revamped dog run and other amenities slated for Brooklyn Bridge Park is set to begin in mid-January, officials announced.
Park officials have laid out an ambitious renovation plan for the park's Main Street entrance as well as the John Street entrance near Jay Street.
The Main Street entrance will include an expanded lawn area, an upgraded dog run, and a 10-to-12-foot bouldering wall that will rise at the base of the Manhattan Bridge at Plymouth and Washington streets. The wall will allow users to climb without ropes free of charge, officials said.
The park's John Street site will include "pedestrian bridges over a tidal salt marsh, tree-lined pathways and a 13,000-square-foot gathering lawn," according to the park's website.
During construction, the existing Main Street dog run, along with the "Riverview Lawn" located between Main and Washington streets in the park, will be closed, officials said.
Nearby Hillside Dog Park — located at Columbia Heights and Vine Street — and the Pier 6 Dog Run will remain open for use, officials said.
The upgraded sections of Brooklyn Bridge Park will reopen to the public in the fall of 2014.
