UPPER WEST SIDE — A gelato bar known for its rich treats has opened a vegetarian lunch pop-up.

From now through March, 'Screme gelato bar on West 94th Street will also host 5 About 5, a kosher vegetarian eatery focused on providing healthy choices, said Nicole Meyers, who owns the gelateria with her husband, Yona Levy.

The concept revolves around four rules the couple has devised for the menu: "1. always fresh, 2. always vegetarian, 3. always kosher, and the most important, 4. always $5," Meyers wrote in an email. And while there are only four rules, repeating the number 5 sounded better in the name, she said.

The $5 options include a variety of soups, such as Moroccan lentil, French onion and tomato barley; Caesar and garden salads; and grilled panini, Meyers said.

"'Screme is big on tastings and we offer tastings of the soups as well," she said.

The couple decided to start the pop-up because they found the lunch options in the neighborhood lacking.

"We were inspired to open this location after living in the neighborhood for three years and there was no healthy takeout food options at reasonable prices. Anytime we would order food it was either fattening and unhealthy or expensive," Meyers said.

There's also an online ordering option.
