QUEENS — The only Ann Taylor in Queens is closing on Jan. 4, but the space may become one of the company's outlet stores, sources said.

Customers doing last minute Christmas shopping in the shop at 71-09 Austin St. were greeted by a large sign at the entrance that read: “This Ann Taylor is closing Saturday, January 4.”

The sign also informed them that the two nearest locations of Ann Taylor are on Madison Avenue in Manhattan.

Forest Hills Chamber of Commerce President Leslie Brown said that the location on Austin Street, which has been around for about a decade, “is a very busy store.”

Sources familiar with the location told DNAinfo.com New York that an Ann Taylor Factory Store may open at the location instead, possibly by March 2014, offering discounted and overstocked items.

Kea Morgan of Ann Inc., which runs Ann Taylor, wrote in an e-mail Monday that "we do not provide comment on individual store openings or closings, which are a natural and ongoing function of doing business in retail."

LOFT, which is also run by Ann Inc., has one of its locations on Austin Street as well.
