KIPS BAY — A woman was found dead inside a packed Volvo with Virginia plates on Second Avenue that neighbors said had been parked there for three months, witnesses and officials said.

The 58-year-old woman, whose identity was not released, was found in the driver's seat of a car brimming with her belongings between 31st and 32nd streets about 9:45 a.m., an FDNY spokesman said.

She was pronounced dead at the scene, the spokesman added.

The city's medical examiner had yet to determine the woman's cause of death.

Deborah Little, 59, of Queens, who works at a nearby Staples, said the woman had been parked there for about three months and would regularly post notes in the windows of her car.

"She took out the signs from the back window saying, 'My husband left me and I'm trapped in the car,'" Little said.

"And I saw the police talking to her on Monday. I thought they were going to give her a ticket but they didn't," Little added.

A hand-written note taped to the 1993 station wagon's window Thursday indicated that the woman believed her cats were stolen by Animal Care and Control.

Police were still investigating the woman's death, an NYPD spokeswoman said.
