ELMHURST — A young mother was shot to death in her apartment on 52nd Avenue while her 5-year-old son was at home, police said.

Carolina Cobena, 29, was inside her apartment along with two men — her boyfriend and a witness — along with her son, who was in another room, Police Commissioner Raymond Kelly said Tuesday.

He said the two men had been drinking "excessively" throughout the day in the home, near Justice Avenue.

According to the commissioner, the witness spotted the victim and her boyfriend go into a room "and he hears a shot."

Cobena was hit twice in the head, and two 9mm handguns were recovered in the apartment, Kelly said.

Rescuers found the victim unconscious and rushed her to Elmhurst Hospital, where she was pronounced dead, police said.

Kelly said the NYPD were talking with her boyfriend, but no arrests have been made.
