Fatal Staten Island House Fire Caused by Smoking, FDNY Says

WILLOWBROOK — A house fire that killed a Staten Island woman on Saturday was caused by smoking in the home, according to the FDNY.

The department tweeted the cause of the fire, which broke out at 470 Hawthorne Street and killed a 61-year-old woman.

Firefighters responded about 6 p.m. on Saturday, where paramedics found the woman unconscious with several burns, police said. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
