BROOKLYN HEIGHTS — The revamped Brooklyn Bridge Park will feature a 186-slip marina designed to serve private powerboats and sailboats, officials revealed.

Park officials are in the process of reviewing applications for a new operator to be in charge of the "design, construction, operation and maintenance of the first-class marina," which will span 320,000 square feet and feature sailing clubs, tours, and some commercial boat operations, according to the request for proposals.

The operator will also be expected to make boat and equipment rentals available to the public along with educational programs for kids, according to the proposal.

The marina will not be available to people who want to live aboard their boat, according to the park.

The operator will also be responsible for the creation of a "wave attenuation system" that will lessen the effect of waves created on the East River, and flood protection measures.

The selected marina operator will be granted a 30-year lease.

The marina is currently scheduled to open in mid-2015.
