GREENPOINT — As cold weather descends upon the city this year, North Brooklynites can glide into the season with the neighborhood's first-ever outdoor ice rink.

McCarren Park's ice skating rink will open Friday on the site of McCarren Pool, and the 7,200-square-foot arena will welcome the public seven days a week through the beginning of January.

The rink will be open every day from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m., accomodating as many as 300 people at once.

It will be operated by the Open Space Alliance and will offer skating classes and skate rentals, officials said. The class schedule has not yet been announced.

Entrance fees for skaters will be $8 for adults, $5 for seniors and students, and $4 for children, officials said.  Skate rentals will cost an additional $5.

Food carts from Jimmy's Diner and Hanson Brothers will provide skaters with sustenance, offering dishes including broccoli cuban melts and hot dogs topped with pulled pork.

The rink was originally slated to open last winter but was delayed by financial and planning problems.
