BROOKLYN — Police were trying to save a dolphin trapped in a Coney Island creek Thursday morning, authorities said.

The dolphin got stuck in the shallow end of the creek but is expected to swim to safety once the tide rolls in Thursday, police said.

A bystander reported the struggling mammal as it swam in the creek near Cropsey Avenue and Bay 54th Street around 10:40 a.m., the NYPD said.

Police from Harbor Patrol and the Emergency Services Unit came to the scene to try to rescue the dolphin, the NYPD said.

Earlier this year, a dolphin died after being spotted in the heavily polluted Gowanus Canal.
