TOMPKINSVILLE — A woman who couldn't walk was trapped in her Tompkinsville home when it caught fire Wednesday morning until three laborers working next door ran in and carried her out, they said.

Four people, including the woman, were inside 262 Corson Ave., near Ely Street, when the fire started about 9:50 a.m., according to the FDNY and laborers.

The workers — Jonas Caraballo, Roland Ortiz and Jose Lopez — saw smoke pouring from the top of the house and broke the front door down, they said.

They first awoke a sleeping man and ushered him and a girl outside before checking the second floor, they said.

"We ran up in there and some lady was coming out saying her daughter couldn't walk so we helped her out," Ortiz said.

"You couldn't see that much. We just grabbed the lady who couldn't walk and walked her down the stairs," Lopez said.

About 60 firefighters brought the blaze under control about 10:25 a.m., the FDNY said.

None of those who were inside were injured, the FDNY said.
