MIDTOWN — The NYPD issued a warning of street closures on Monday as revelers enjoy the 69th Annual Columbus Day Parade on Monday in Midtown.
The parade, which runs along Fifth Avenue, will trigger street shutdowns starting at 8 a.m., in preparation of the 11:30 a.m. parade that's been taking place in the city since 1929.
Marchers will proceed from East 44th Street up to East 72nd Street, and parade-goers can access the area by public transit, though most bus routes within the parade area will be rerouted to nearby locations, according to the MTA.
The shutdowns will take place in the following streets between 8 a.m. and 2 p.m.:
- East 44th Street between Madison Avenue and 6th Avenue
- East 45th Street between Madison Avenue and 6th Avenue
- East 46th Street between Madison Avenue and 6th Avenue
- East 47th Street between Madison Avenue and 6th Avenue
- 5th Avenue between East 43rd Street & East 47th Street
- 5th Avenue between East 47rd Street and East 72nd Street
- 5th Avenue between East 72nd Street and East 79th Street
- East 72nd Street between 5th Avenue and Madison Avenue
- East 73rd Street between 5th Avenue and Madison Avenue
- East 74th Street between 5th Avenue and Madison Avenue
- East 75th Street between 5th Avenue and Madison Avenue
- East 76th Street between 5th Avenue and Madison Avenue
- East 77th Street between 5th Avenue and Madison Avenue
- East 78th Street between 5th Avenue and Madison Avenue
The MTA reported Sunday that subway and bus service would all operate on a standard weekday schedule during the holiday with the exception of limited stop service in some Staten Island routes. No limited stop service would be offered on the S81, S86, S90, S91, S92, S94, S96, S98 S89 and S93 lines.
All other limited stop buses would be running, the MTA said, as well as limited bus, SBS and express bus lines. Some bus routes would see longer intervals between buses, the MTA said.
