SUNSET PARK — A man died after he was stabbed in the gut in broad daylight Sunday, cops said.

Giovanni Rodriguez, 22, was near the intersection of 57th Street and Fourth Avenue in Sunset Park about 3:15 p.m. when a man knifed him in the stomach and right arm, according to the NYPD.

Rodriguez was rushed to Lutheran Medical Center where he was pronounced dead, police said.

His attacker remained at large Monday morning, cops said.

Friends said Rodriguez grew up in the neighborhood and had two children, who live in Puerto Rico.

"I knew him since he was a kid," said Sunset Park resident Steven Mergildo. I never saw him doing crazy things, he got along with everybody.

"It makes you uncomfortable, for something to happen to a young kid like that."

Police said their investigation is ongoing but that Rodriguez and his attacker, believed to be in his 50s, were strangers who had an argument.

The New York Daily News reported the suspect is an unstable neighborhood regular who taunted Rodriguez.
