DOWNTOWN BROOKLYN — Intellectual stimulation abounded Sunday at the Brooklyn Book Festival, which continued on until 6 p.m.
Based at Borough Hall Plaza in Downtown Brooklyn, the city's largest free literary event offered a long list of lectures, conversations and presentations, spread among fourteen different locations.
Appearances planned for Sunday afternoon included renowned authors with Brooklyn connections, such as Edwidge Denticat and Pete Hamill, as well as Colum McCann, Art Spiegelman and George Packer.
The festival was put together by Brooklyn Tourism and the Brooklyn Literary Council, both initiatives of Borough President Marty Markowitz.
Founded in 2006, the fest aimed to fill a void left by the disappearance of the New York is Book Country festival.
In its early years, the festival primarily featured local writers, but has blossomed in size, scope and popularity in recent years.
Last year's attendance topped 40,000, organizers say. A full schedule can be found here.
