YORKVILLE — Neighborhood cheese-lovers will soon have something new to nosh on.

Lucy's Whey, an "American artisanal" cheese shop with locations in East Hampton and inside Chelsea Market, will open its third store at 1417 Lexington Ave., at East 93rd Street., according to management and a sign posted in the window.

The UES shop will serve grilled cheeses found at other Lucy's Whey locations, but will also boast a cafe, said manager Nathan Heggem of the shop's Chelsea outpost.

In the morning and afternoon, the cafe will feature coffee and espresso, as well pastries, cold sandwiches and salads, he explained.

In the evening, the cafe will serve wine and cheese plates along with grilled cheese sandwiches, Heggem noted.

Reports originally indicated that Lucy's Whey would open at the end of August, but Heggem, who does not work extensively with the new store, didn't know the exact launch date.

A call to another store manager was not immediately returned.

Lucy's Whey also sells "jams, marmalades, mustards, chutneys, pickles, honeys, crackers, and dried fruits" to go accompany the cheeses that "have been carefully selected from small producers across the United States," the website says.

The cheese shop replaces an empty space previously occupied by a delicatessen, neighbors said.
