MIDTOWN — Metalheads, rejoice.

Rex Brown, former bassist for platinum-selling metal band Pantera and the groups Down and Kill Devil Hill, is scheduled to make an appearance at the Sam Ash guitar shop on West 34th Street Thursday night.

Brown, 49, will perform "some famous riffs from throughout his career," answer questions and sign autographs, according to sponsor Hartke.

Pantera, from Arlington, Texas, toured around the world, winning acclaim, strong sales and a Grammy nomination for Best Metal Performance over more than two decades. The group broke up in 2003, but returned to the headlines a year later, after its guitarist "Dimebag" Darrell Abbott was shot and killed on stage while performing with a side project.

Brown's appearance at Sam Ash, located at 333 W. 34th St., is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. Those planning to attend are encouraged to arrive early.
