NEW YORK CITY — The two men indicted in connection with the fatal shooting of 1-year-old Antiq Hennis in Brownsville earlier this month have been moved out of Rikers Island, according to records.
The alleged triggerman, Daquan Breland, 23, who was charged with second-degree murder and two counts of criminal possession of a weapon, was transferred from the city to Westchester County Jail, an inmate database shows.
Daquan Wright, 19, who allegedly handed the gun to Breland on Sept. 1 just before he fired the shot that struck Antiq in the head, is now in custody in the Suffolk County Jail, according to records.
Officials at the city Department of Corrections declined to comment on any aspect of the move.
The two men targeted 16-month-old Antiq's father, Anthony Hennis, who sources said was a Crips gang member, in retaliation for the July 2012 shooting of Wright's brother. Craig Wright, 23, Kentrell Simpson, 13, and 2-year-old Ariyanna Prince were wounded in that drive-by shooting, the Daily News reported.
Breland and Wright, both allegedly Bloods gang members, went on the run to Pennsylvania soon after they discovered that the baby had been shot instead of their intended target.
They were caught by cops on Sept. 7 in Wilkes-Barre and were extradited back to the city and held at Rikers Island. In an interview with the Daily News following his capture, Breland admitted that he pulled the trigger that killed Antiq.
“I know how people see me," he told the paper. "If something happens to me here, I understand.”
