QUEENS — Cops from the 112th Precinct are planning to organize their first online forum in an attempt to reach a greater number of younger residents.
The meeting will be held in addition to the monthly Precinct Community Council meetings, which are usually attended by a few dozen residents and where cops discuss neighborhood crime trends, said Heidi Chain, president of the 112th Precinct Community Council.
Chain will participate in the online forum along with Capt. Thomas Conforti, commanding officer of the precinct.
“There are people of all ages who are not able to attend a [regular] meeting,” Chain said. “It is our hope that with an online meeting we will be able to reach the business community as well as all of our residents.”
The details are still being worked out, Chain said, including the time, date and website that will be used to facilitate the forum.
The forum will largely be driven by questions submitted beforehand by residents and is not intended to replace the regular precinct community council meeting.
But Chain noted said that “during this meeting everyone will have direct access to both Captain Conforti and me.”
“If you have access to a computer, you can join the meeting from anywhere,” she said.
