EAST FLATBUSH — Police responding to a call about a dispute wound up firing on a man who approached them wielding two machetes, the NYPD said Sunday.

The man, who was shot in the right forearm and left hip, was rushed to Kings County Hospital after the altercation and is in stable condition, the NYPD said.

Police arrived at the East 46th Street home near Winthrop Street at 8:04 p.m. in response to a 911 call reporting an argument involving a man armed with two knives, police said.

When the officers got out of their marked police cruiser, the man, who was leaving the house, approached them with a machete in each hand, the officers said. One of the cops fired twice on the suspect, who was then rushed to the hospital.

The knives were recovered at the scene, and the NYPD released photos of them Sunday.

Both officers were being treated at Methodist Hospital for tinnitus and an investigation was ongoing, police said.
