UPPER EAST SIDE —A parking attendant in an Audio Quattro survived a three-story plunge down an elevator shaft at an Upper East Side Garage Thursday afternoon, cops and fire officials said.

The car accidently went forward through the open doors of the shaft on the fifth floor of Sterling Parking at 305 East 80th Street about 3:45 p.m., landing upside down on top of an elevator, which was stopped between the first and second floor, a spokesman with the Fire Department said.

The worker was able to escape through sunroof of vehicle and then through an opening on the ceiling of the elevator. He was taken to the hospital, where he was treated for trauma, according to the FDNY.

It was not immediately clear why the door to the shaft was open when the elevator was not at that floor.

Responders were still working to extract the vehicle several hours after the accident.

A man who answered the phone at the garage, but declined to give his name, said that the attendant was recuperating. He said he did not know how he accident happened.
