QUEENS — Signal problems on the Long Island Rail Road temporarily suspended some train service and caused delays during the rush hour commute Thursday evening, in the midst of the Rosh Hashanah holiday.

The MTA said to expect system-wide delays of up to 20 minutes on the LIRR during the evening commute, caused by signal issues on the Queens side of the East River tunnels, according to its website.

Westbound train service between Jamaica, Queens and Penn Station was restored around 5 p.m. after having been suspended temporarily, according to the MTA and the City's Office of Emergency Management.
