MIDTOWN — Ooh la la!
Acclaimed French bakery chain Maison Kayser is doubling its Manhattan cafes this fall, adding two more patisseries to the two it already runs on the Upper East Side and in Flatiron.
By the end of next month, a Maison Kayser cafe is expected to open at 1800 Broadway at 58th Street, just south of Columbus Circle, general manager Arthur Sertorio said. Another is slated to open on West 40th Street near Bryant Park by the end of the year.
The Bryant Park location had previously been scheduled to open in January, as reported by The New York Times, and the Broadway cafe by the end of summer. Sertorio attributed to the delays to construction slowdowns.
"It's been a long time. It's all going to come soon," said Sertorio, speaking by phone from the restaurant's Upper East Side spot on Third Avenue at East 74th Street.
Maison Kayser founder Eric Kayser has won renown for his baguettes, brioches and croissants, which use liquid sourdough leavening instead of commercial yeasts for greater flavor.
The first Maison Kayser opened in Paris in 1996. It now has dozens of restaurants across the world, and it opened its first cafe in New York City last August. A second opened on Broadway at 21st Street in July.
