FLATIRON — Tennis star Serena Williams tried her hand at a different type of tennis on Wednesday afternoon.

Delta Airlines hosted a day of free pingpong at the southeast corner of the park, and to kick off the event, the company held a celebrity tournament in front of Shake Shack at 1 p.m.

Hundreds gathered at the park to watch competitors — including Williams, the New York Rangers' Henrik Lundqvist, the New York Knicks' Iman Shumpert and the New York Yankees' Brett Gardner — battle it out for the winner's title.

In the end, Williams was the champ, winning a Delta pilot's hat — and fans in attendance said they weren’t surprised by the result.

“They’ve got the hand-eye coordination,” said Gramercy resident Austin White, 26. “But they’re playing against Serena Williams. That’s tough.”

Other festivities included a large net with jumbo, inflatable pingpong paddles and balls, and four regular pingpong tables.

Jackson Heights resident Melinda Ackell, 34, had to strain to peer over a crowd of people to get a glimpse of the athletes, but said she was still glad she came.

“It’s a nice little break from work,” Ackell said.
