ARDEN HEIGHTS — A Staten Island tour bus company was been shut down by the U.S. Department of Transportation after it stranded 53 passengers in Virginia for 24 hours in July.
All Nations Coach Inc., based in Arden Heights, was shut down on Wednesday after the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration found it was a reincarnation of a company shut down in 2012 for multiple safety violations and failure to pay $5,400 in civil penalties, the U.S. DOT said.
“There is no place on our highways and roads for bus operators who disregard safety,” U.S. DOT secretary Anthony Foxx said in a release. “Passengers should be able to trust that the company they use will be able to get them to their destination in a safe and timely manner.”
Investigation in the company started in July, after an All Nations Coach bus broke down in Virginia on the to the city after traveling from Charlotte, N.C., the DOT said.
The passengers were taken to a nearby truck stop and they waited for nearly 24 hours for a replacement bus to arrive, the release said.
