NEW YORK — A retractable roof will be built over Arthur Ashe Stadium in Flushing Meadows-Corona Park, according to the U.S Tennis Association.

In addition to the roof, the USTA will unveil designs for two new stadiums, a viewing plaza for practice courts and the relocation of other tennis courts.

They did not say when the construction on the $500 million project would be completed.

The USTA’s expansion plans were approved by the city council last month after a deal was struck with community leaders to provide financial support to the park.

Under the plan, the USTA will contribute $10.05 million to an alliance for the park, capital projects and programs that help local businesses and families

The U.S. Open, which is held at the stadium, begins Aug. 26.
