QUEENS — A Long Island City street will celebrate the neighborhood's artistic roots Saturday with a block party.

SculptureCenter is hosting its second annual LIC Block Party from 12 to 5 p.m. on Purves Street and Jackson Avenue — a day of art-themed activities and entertainment in collaboration with a number of neighborhood artists and local arts groups.

The festivities will include a social media photo booth, donut making, balloon twisting and coffee ground readings, music and dance performances, plus food from local restaurants Burger Garage, LIC Market, Manducatis Rustica, Sage, and Soho Snacks.

Participants can enjoy hands-on fun making mixed-media sculptures with Material for the Arts, rock transformation with the Noguchi Museum or learn how to make a thaumatrope — a Victorian-era optical toy — with the Museum of the Moving Image.

A number of SculptureCenter artists will be selling their wares in a special "art market" featuring drawings, prints, jewelry clothing and other items.

The block party will take place Saturday, Aug. 3 from 12 to 5 p.m. on Purves Street at Jackson Avenue and 43rd Avenue.
