FINANCIAL DISTRICT — Downtown has gone a little Jersey shore.

Popular sandwich chain Jersey Mike's Subs, a staple of the shore for decades, launched its first New York City location at 80 Maiden Lane Tuesday, offering its signature sandwiches piled high with freshly sliced meats and cheeses on just-baked bread.

And the shop, which now has more than 700 locations nationwide, is celebrating its Financial District opening with a free sub giveaway, according to a statement from the store.

Through Aug. 4, anyone who brings in one of the 23,000 coupons that have been distributed Downtown and makes a $2 donation to Citymeals-on-Wheels will get a free regular sub, which features deli meats like roast beef and turkey, cheese and classic toppings including onions, lettuce, tomatoes and a signature olive oil blend, with red wine vinegar and spices.

The store also offers a host of hot subs, such as the Big Kahuna Cheese Steak, made with grilled onions and peppers, as well jalapenos, mushrooms and cheese, as well as a selection of wraps, including a vegetarian option.

Jersey Mikes’s is slated to open its second New York City location at Third Avenue and East 56th Street in September.
