QUEENS — A man who identified himself as a Sears manager stole nearly $5,000 in cash from a customer whom he had promised a discount on electronics, police sources said Wednesday.

The imposter, who was wearing a shirt that said "Sears" on it, approached the customer at the store in the Rego Center Mall, on Queens Boulevard and 63rd Drive, sources said.

He identified himself as a manager and offered significant employee discounts on TV sets. After he convinced the victim to purchase a TV, he took the money and never returned with the equipment, sources said.

The victim lost $4,900.

A spokesman for Sears declined to comment.
