NEW YORK CITY — A would-be phone snatcher lost his shirt earlier this month after the man he was trying to rob turned on him, cops said.
The encounter began aboard a southbound 6 train when the thief tried to pinch a cellphone off a man's belt as the train pulled into the East 77 Street-Lexington Avenue station about 11 p.m. July 3, according to the NYPD.
But the victim grappled with the suspect, who could only escape by slipping out of his shirt and bolting, police said.
Surveillance video released by police shows the bare-chested thief walking through a subway turnstile empty-handed.
No injuries were reported.
