NEW YORK — City Council candidate Alex Meadows has dropped out of the race for Christine Quinn's District 3 seat, according to a report.

Meadows, a Community Board 2 member, cited "personal and family reasons" in a statement about his decision to step down, The Villager reported

Meadows endorsed his former rival Corey Johnson, chairman of Community Board 4, Johnson told DNAinfo New York Thursday.

Johnson said he was "very honored to have [Meadows'] support."

Johnson will face civil rights attorney Yetta Kurland in the September Democratic primary for the seat.

Meadows, who had received just $29,000 in donations compared to Johnson's $176,000 and Kurland's $134,000, had recently stopped speaking publicly about the race. He did not return calls for comment this week.

Kurland said Thursday that she had "complete respect" for Meadows but that endorsements are not the most important part of the race.

"At the end of the day, it's not going to be any one person who decide who's going to represent the Third Council District," Kurland said. "It's going to be the community who decides."
