COLUMBIA WATERFRONT DISTRICT — Two Brooklyn moms, a couple of kitchens and a chemical-free life.

That’s what started the Brooklyn Herborium, a company that creates and sells organic skincare products for mothers and babies and will soon open their first brick-and-mortar store in the neighborhood.

Crafting their own herbal recipes, founders Molly Watman and Emma Graves have been selling their products online for about a year, after meeting at a mommy-baby yoga class in Carroll Gardens.

The Herborium, opening on July 20 at 275 Columbia St., will be selling their complete range of products and even offering facials using herbal remedies at the new store, Watman said.

Watman, a graphic designer who lives in Carroll Gardens, wanted her 2-year-old daughter to grow up without harmful, skin-drying chemical products, she said.

“I was looking for things to use for my child,” Watman said. “Living a chemical-free life became very important to me.”

Graves, an herbalist, had already started her own skincare line, "Between You & the Moon," when the duo teamed up last year to create products for tiny tots, new or expecting mothers and a "Clean & Green Collection" of hand soaps, deodorizers and essential oils.

“It’s really empowering to realize that you don’t have to be dependent on a corporate manufacturer and what they put in the bottle,” Watman said.

For babies, milk bath powder and zinc diaper ointment are just a few of the homemade products, as well as a “Baby Bum Spray,” a cleanser and moisturizer for “poopy bottoms” with tea tree oil that helps deal with “crusty issues."

Expecting and new mothers have a line just for themselves “that helps maintain beautiful skin in the midst of hormonal shifts,” including an organic gluten-free facial cleaner, massage and facial oils, according to the website.

And for a mother-baby nightly routine, Watman recommends their organic coconut oil, infused with Calendula and Red Clover that helps soothe skin irritations, inflammations and “unidentifiable rashes” that babies often develop, she said.

The Herborium even has its own herbal remedy, called “Cow Fart Juice,” a $60 “anti-bacterial, anti-microbial and anti-fungal” solution that can soothe blemishes, inflammation, rashes and other irritants, Watman said.

“People have to really care about what they’re putting on their body,” Watman said. “There’s a huge move to going natural.”
