MORRISANA — Two men were shot and killed in the Bronx during separate incidents.

On Friday, 33-year-old Jamal Davis was shot and killed in front of a basketball court at 975 Tinton Ave.

Just before midnight, police officers responded to a 911 call about shots fired at the apartment complex. Once they arrived, they found Davis unconscious on the ground.

Davis, who lived nearby, had received several gunshot wounds and, by the time he was transported to Lincoln Hospital, he was pronounced dead on arrival.

Just a few blocks away, at 1111 Prospect Ave., 30-year-old Tremont resident Matthew Simmons was shot in the chest on the evening of June 26. Police responded to the call at about 11:16 p.m., and Simmons remained in critical condition at Lincoln Hospital until Friday, when he was pronounced dead. Police are now treating his case a homicide.

According to statements by NYPD's DCPI, no arrests have been made in either incident, and investigations are ongoing.
