CONEY ISLAND — The bodies of a pair of jet skiers who went missing off the coast of Coney Island early Friday morning July 4 have been recovered by NYPD divers, a Coast Guard spokeswoman said.

The search began about 8 p.m. Thursday after a man was seen leaping from his jet ski to retrieve a woman who had fallen from the back in Coney Island Creek. Neither of them were wearing a life jacket, officials said.

Two police officers and an off-duty Coast Guard member saw the incident and said neither of the jet skiers resurfaced, the Coast Guard said.

The FDNY's marine units spent the day and into the evening searching for the couple along with the Coast Guard along with the NYPD's sea, air, and land crews, according to the Coast Guard.

NYPD harbor divers found the man about 12:36 a.m. and the woman at 1:11 a.m., the Coast Guard said.
