EAST VILLAGE — Three 12-foot sculptures have waltzed into East River Park.
The vibrant sculptures, called "Dancers of the Wind," went on display last week just south of the East 10th Street footbridge and will remain on view until November.
The exhibit marks husband-and-wife team Lina and Gus Ocamposilva's first New York City public art display.
Each brightly colored sculpture expresses the fluidity, passion, freedom and capabilities of the human body, said the Parks Department, which sponsored the exhibit. The grand jeté, adagio and arabesque ballet steps inspired the design of each dancer.
Although the sculptures are made of a strong aluminum, they convey the controlled fluidity of ballet through intricate patterns using tubes, exposed bolts and interesting textures, according to the Parks Department.
Lina and Gus Ocamposilva make sculptures that reflect the beauty of their homes in the Andes and tropics. Many of the pair's works have been on public display in cities throughout the world.
