NEW YORK CITY — A flash flood warning was in affect until 3 p.m. Monday afternoon as rain walloped the city in the first downpour in an expected week of stormy weather, according to the National Weather Service.

The heavy rains started about 10 a.m. prompting the weather service to issue a flood warning as severe weather is expected to extend into the afternoon.

Though the rains are expected to lighten by nightfall, wet conditions and storms are expected to continue into the week with temperatures reaching into the mid-80s, according to the NWS.
