PARK SLOPE — A long-closed South Slope playground will reopen Thursday with a brand new water feature to help families cool off this summer.
Slope Park, on Sixth Avenue between 18th and 19th streets, is set to reopen with a 12:30 p.m. ribbon-cutting ceremony, South Slope News reported.
The playground, which is right next door to P.S. 295, was closed for renovations in April 2012, and families have been eagerly awaiting its return. The makeover was originally scheduled to be finished in the spring of 2013, but the project was delayed repeatedly.
The renovated park will have new play equipment, a water feature, new seating and plantings. Entrances will be wheelchair-accessible, and so will some of the play equipment, a spokesman for City Councilwoman Sara Gonzalez told DNAinfo.
Gonzalez, who represents the area, allocated $2 million of her discretionary budget to the playground's renovation.
