NEW YORK CITY — The heat advisory may no longer be in effect, but don’t expect the oppressive weather to end just yet.
Temperatures are expected to reach 90 degrees Wednesday afternoon for the third straight day — giving the city its first heat wave of the year — before finally cooling off this evening, according to the National Weather Service.
A heatwave is declared after temperatures reach 90 degrees or above for three straight days.
Storms are also expected around 3 p.m. with wind gusts as high as 14 mph, according to the service.
Thursday's high is expected to be just 84. Storms are also anticipated throughout the afternoon, according to the NWS.
The 90-degree mark Wednesday still falls far short of the all-time June 26 record of 100 degrees, set in 1952, according to the service. The record low for the date is 56 degrees, set in in 1979.
