BROWNSVILLE — Police arrested a man Tuesday in connection with the murder of a cabbie who was stabbed in the eye with an umbrella last week in Brooklyn, police said.

Shamel Allen, 28, was charged with manslaughter in the death of 54-year-old Orji-Ama Uro, a Nigerian immigrant and father of five, who was killed in Brownsville last Thursday.

Uro dropped off Allen and a woman at Lott Avenue and Thomas Boyland Street about 5:30 p.m. The couple allegedly started arguing with Uro and got out of the car. Allen then opened the passenger side door, reached inside and stabbed Uro in the eye with the point of his umbrella, police sources said.

"I cried so much last night, all the tears are gone," said Uro's sister-in-law, Chinedoum Agwu last Friday from her Rosedale, Queens home. "I spoke to him two days ago."

Uro moved to the U.S. a decade ago and was living with his two sons and three daughters. He worked as a shoe salesman in Nigeria and dreamed of one day owning his own store, his family said.

Allen, who lives at 51 Lott Ave., is also charged with criminal possession of a weapon.

Police said they were not sure at this time if the woman Allen was with would also be charged in the incident.
