QUEENS — The music of Tito Puente will transform a Jamaica park into a hot summer dance stage on Friday night.
Residents will sway to salsa rhythms at Rufus King Park as DJs play songs by Puente, along with Johnny Pacheco and Willie Colon, as part of the annual “Dancing Under The Stars” event.
For those who don’t know the steps, salsa instructors will be on hand to provide free dance lessons.
“Salsa dance and music is a widely popular art form with historic roots in the Caribbean, Africa and South America,” said Councilman Leroy Comrie, who will host the event.
Comrie, whose office said he will also show his moves on the dance floor, said the dance gives “local families a free night out in one of our community’s great parks.”
The event, in its fifth year, is attended by hundreds of people, Comrie’s office said.
“Dancing Under the Stars” will take place June 14 from 7 to 9 p.m.
