CLINTON HILL — A 23-year-old man fell victim to random gunfire when he was shot and killed on Friday night on Myrtle Avenue near Pratt Institute.
The man, Antonio Wilson, was taken to Brooklyn Hospital with a gunshot wound to the armpit. He was was pronounced dead on arrival, police said.
Witnesses said a gunman fired over 30 rounds from an automatic weapon after an altercation broke out near New Sapolo Restaurant on Ryerson Street at the corner of Myrtle Avenue.
A witness called 911 at approximately 11:53 p.m., according to police.
Wilson was not involved in the altercation but was leaving nearby Fork Cafe, according to SoCo southern restaurant owner, Peter Best.
"He was an innocent bystander," Best said. "He died on Grand Avenue in the street around the corner."
Other witnesses said roughly eight police cars were on the scene in the aftermath of the shooting.
The front windows of SoCo and next-door-neigbor Castro's Mexican Restaurant were broken in the shooting.
The gunman was not a patron at either eatery, according to Best.
This incident comes after local residents voiced concerns at a recent 88th Precinct Community Council meeting that noise, fighting and gun violence had gotten out of control outside of New Sapolo Restaurant.
The victim's ID was being withheld by police pending family notification. There are no arrests and the investigation is ongoing.
