SUNNYSIDE — Greenmarkets in Sunnyside and Astoria have reopened for the season.

The two fresh food markets run by GrowNYC reopened last Saturday, and run weekly through late fall.

The Sunnyside market is held on Skillman Avenue between 42nd and 43rd Streets, near Lou Lodati Park, and features an array of fresh fruits and vegetables from upstate New York, plus specialty Mexican produce and herbs, eggs, seasonal fruit, cider, baked goods, fish, cheese, pickled vegetables, grass-fed beef, and locally-sourced wines.

The Astoria market is located outside Socrates Sculpture Park at Broadway and Vernon Boulevard and offers similar products, plus artisan bread and fresh honey.

Both markets accept food stamps and WIC, and both sites will also be collecting food scraps for composting by BIG!Compost, a program of the Astoria-based Build It Green!NYC.
