CARROLL GARDENS — This eatery is kicking it old school — Brooklyn-style

Old School Brooklyn opened its doors in Carroll Gardens, this month, and they’re going old school and keeping it simple, said Chef David Buico.

The family-friendly restaurant, located at 520 Court St., is serving up classic “Italian-American-Brooklyn” cuisine, said Buico, reminiscent of his own life in Brooklyn.

“It’s like going to grandma’s house without having to do the dishes,” he said.

Old School Brooklyn’s menu features new and old Italian delicacies like gnocchi with homemade mozzarella and tomato sauce, duck and veal meatballs, and rib eye tartar with quail egg.

Many of the recipes, like Buico’s tomato marinara sauce, come straight from his own grandmother’s kitchen but have been tweaked a bit over the years, he said.

And if you miss third and fourth helpings of grandma’s grub, Buico guarantees large hearty portions for hungry diners.

“You don’t have to be embarrassed to have a big bowl of pasta in front of you,” said Buico, a “grandma-trained” chef who has worked at eateries like Patina, Bocca and Fresco by Scotto.

With vintage knick-knacks, old jazz music and mother’s fine China, Buico and proprietor Alessandro Peluso hope to stir past memories of the borough and Carroll Gardens, a once predominantly Italian-American neighborhood.

“It reminds me of old time Brooklyn,” said Buico.

Old School Brooklyn is located at 520 Court St., an is open for dinner Tuesday through Sunday from 5 p.m. to 11 p.m. Brunch is coming soon. For more information, visit this website.
