NEW YORK CITY — Disgraced Brooklyn Assemblyman Vito Lopez says he'll leave the Legislature next month, but he'll keep a hand in politics.

Lopez said Friday that he'll run for City Council.

Lopez will step down from his Albany post at the end of the legislative session on June 20, and he'll run for a City Council seat in November, he said.

"I expect to run a vigorous campaign on the issues facing the citizens of my community and hope to continue to serve them as a member of the City Council," Lopez said. "I believe that the voters of the community should decide who should represent them."

Lopez's announcement came on the heels of a scathing report from the Joint Commission on Public Ethics that described how Lopez allegedly told female employees to wear low cut blouses and high heels and asked some for massages.

Lopez won't face criminal charges as a result of the sexual harassment investigation.
