NEW YORK CITY — Anthony Weiner will decide "matter of days, not months" if he'll run for mayor, the disgraced former congressman told Newsday on Wednesday.
Weiner, who came in second to City Council Speaker Christine Quinn in a NBC New York-Marist poll and a Quinnipiac poll last month, made the announcement to Newsday reporters outside of his Park Avenue South home, according to the paper.
"I definitely have to decide soon," Weiner told the paper. "People have a right to be skeptical, and hopefully if I run, they'll get a chance to judge me based on the issues."
The paper could not confirm earlier reports from Politico that alleged Weiner hired Danny Kedem, former staff member to Staten Island congressional candidate Mark Murphy, as his campaign manager.
After his Twitter sexting scandal in 2011, in which the former representative accidentally tweeted a racy photo of himself to his followers, Weiner largely kept a low profile until last summer, when he quietly began ramping up his campaign spending. In March, it was revealed that he spent $100,000 on polling and research.
Then in an interview with the New York Times Magazine, Weiner announced that he was indeed considering jumping into the race.
He has since created a new Twitter account, @anthonyweiner, where he largely tweets ideas from his 20-page web manual, Keys to the City, which boasts "64 Ideas to Keep New York the Capital of the Middle Class."
