NEW YORK CITY — A city sanitation worker died Tuesday night after slamming his black 2011 Suzuki into a tree near Astoria's Socrates Sculpture Park, cops said.

The biker, Daniel Nieves, 32, of Ridgewood, was rushed to Cornell Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, according to the NYPD.

Nieves, a garbage collector in the Bushwick and Ridgewood neighborhoods since 2005, was heading north on Vernon Boulevard about 10 p.m. when he plowed into the tree at 31st Avenue, police said.

The incident did not appear to be criminal and police said they are still investigating.
