NEW YORK CITY — A 40-year-old man working at the Brooklyn Navy Yard plummeted to his death Friday night after crawling out of a stalled elevator car, fire officials said.

Inunion Tursunov became inpatient when his elevator car got stuck on the sixth floor during a building power failure about 10:30 p.m., fire and police sources said.

Firefighters were on their way to the scene to pull Tursunov out of the lift, but he pried the cars open and crawled into the open shaft where he apparently lost his footing in the dark and fell to he death, according to the FDNY.

He died at Brooklyn Hospital, the fire department said.
