NORTHERN MANHATTAN — Alternate side parking suspensions currently in effect in half of Community Board 12 will extend to the northern tip of Manhattan later this month, a city councilman has announced.

Beginning April 29, parking regulations will be suspended in Washington Heights and Inwood above West 181st Street, City Councilman Robert Jackson announced Tuesday.

The suspensions come as the Department of Transportation changes street signs to reflect new street-cleaning rules. By virtue of a high street cleanliness rating in Washington Heights and Inwood, the Department of Sanitation approved a request from Community Board 12 to decrease the number of street cleaning days from four to two.

The DOT began changing street signs in the lower half of the district on March 18, subsequently suspending parking regulations in Washington Heights below West 181st Street.

Enforcement of regulations will resume in southern Washington Heights on May 6.
