NEW YORK CITY — A chilly spring thunderstorm on Wednesday evening marked an abrupt return to weather reality after two days of temperatures in the 70s and low 80s.

Heavy showers were expected through midnight with lighter rain predicted in the early morning hours on Thursday, according to a forecast by the National Weather Service.

The showers were forecast to bring in a cold front that meteorologists said would drop high temperatures back down toward 60 degrees for the next several days.
